The Water Meter Section is responsible for installing water meters, metering accuracy testing, job scheduling, and customer supply concerns. Responsibility for Water Conservation Program and the Cross Connection Control falls under this Section as well. City Bylaw #7567 governs the operation of metering and cross connection aspects of the Water Meter Section.
The City of Saskatoon provides water and sewer services to approximately 61,000 water meters that must be read and billed within City's franchise area. Each year approximately 600 new meters are added to the City of Saskatoon system. There are approximately 53,000 meters that are less than one inch (1") in size. These meters are billed monthly and read on a quarterly basis. The remainder of the meters are larger than one inch (1"). This group of meters are read and billed monthly.
Metering operations focus on three main areas, Automated Meter Reading (AMR) Change-out, Intermediate meter (1 1/2" and 2" meters) Change-out, and Large Meter Testing and Maintenance. The City of Saskatoon customers are essentially 100% metered with the exception of a number of boulevards. Our goal is to replace meters every 20 years to ensure fair and equitable measurement for all the citizens of Saskatoon.
