 LANDFILL TIPPING RATES TO CHANGE BEGINNING

Please note that the Saskatoon Regional Waste Management Centre (Landfill) tipping rates will be changing as of January 1, 2012. The rates reflect increased operational costs at the facility and were approved by City Council on March 1, 2010.

The table below outlines the current 2011 rates and the approved rates for 2012. Please call the Waste Stream Management Customer Service line at 975-2486 if you have any questions.

PLEASE NOTE: The SRWMC is not currently accepting asbestos materials.

Starting on Tuesday, October 11, winter hours will come into effect at the Saskatoon Regional Waste Management Centre (Landfill) when it will be open daily between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

 

Circle Drive South Construction Project - Landfill Impacts

Through the spring and summer of 2011 the Circle Drive South Construction Project will affect access to the Saskatoon Regional Waste Management Centre (Landfill). Due to construction on the project some delays can be expected.

Please use caution and watch for on-site signage and other information updates as they become available.

 Location:
The Saskatoon Regional Waste Management Centre (Landfill) is on Dundonald Avenue, 1.1 kilometres south of 11th Street. Please watch for signs. For a recorded message of landfill information, please call 975-2496.


Hours of Operation:


Summer Hours (April 26 to mid October): 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Winter Hours (mid October to mid April): 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Landfill is open seven days a week, including holidays; closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Fees: (Effective January 2, 2011)

The Saskatoon Regional Waste Management Centre (Landfill)now accepts cash, cheque, debit or credit cards.

Every person delivering waste to the Landfill site shall remit a $10.00 Entrance Fee.*

*Exceptions to the entrance fee:

  • Delivering clean, sorted glass or porcelain, no charge.
  • First two visits, $5.00 off per calendar year (recorded by licence plate number). 

In addition to the Entrance Fee provided herein, every person delivering waste to the Landfill site shall remit the following additional charges based upon the weight or type of waste being disposed:

(a) Solid Waste of the general
household or commercial type
and not requiring special
handling;
< 250 kg - n/c ($10.00* entry fee only)
251 to 300 kg - $4.00  (+ $10.00* entry fee)
301 to 350 kg - $10.00  (+ $10.00* entry fee)
> 351 kg - $65.00 per tonne (+ $10.00* entry fee)
(b) Gasoline Contaminated Soil; $23.00 per tonne
(c) Clean earth fill; No charge
(d) Dead animals:
(i) pigs, sheep; $10.00 per carcass
(ii) horses, or other large
animals, excluding cattle;
$20.00 per carcass
(iii) small animals from
commercial
establishments such
as kennels;
$10.00 per carcass
Note: Cattle remains are not accepted at the Landfill.
(e) Approved special waste
requiring special handling,
including, but not limited to:
manure, pig hair, wire and
bottles;
At a rate of $73.00 per tonne
Minimum charge:
$175.00 per load
(f) Roof shingles; At a rate of $74.00 per tonne
Minimum charge:
Not applicable
(g) Appliances Containing
Refrigerants
(eg. chlorofluorocarbons),
including, but not limited to:
refrigerators, freezers and
air conditioners;
$15.00 each
(h) Surcharged Material:
Loads containing more than
10% by weight of material that
can be recycled at the landfill
site or alternate recycling
facilities (eg. cardboard, paper,
metal, yard waste, etc.); and
Rate of surcharge will be 100%
of the total load charge
(i) Other materials as may be
agreed in writing with the
Utility Services Manager.



Recycling Opportunities:

The Saskatoon Regional Waste Management Centre (Landfill) offers the following recycling opportunities:

  • Used engine oil, oil filters, and oil containers at the Eco-Centre;
  • Newspapers, magazines in the green Cosmo Bins;
  • Old appliances and scrap metal are accepted and recycled. General tipping fees still apply;

If you have items for the Eco Centre, or clean fill (such as dirt or sod), please let the Scale Attendant know upon entry; if the load is not properly identified, general tipping fees will apply.
