Communications Staff are the link between the department and the public we serve. In just seconds much is accomplished in the Saskatoon Fire & Protective Services Central Communications Division. The seconds are critical between an emergency call being received, and the time responding apparatus roll out of the fire halls.
Twelve dispatchers work in shifts around the clock to maintain a high standard of response in emergencies. Three staff per shift work a shift rotation of three 10-hour day shifts followed by three 14-hour night shifts
Communications Specialists with Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services are well trained professionals. Communications staff are APCO (Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials – International Inc.) trained in both Emergency Telecommunications and Fire Communications, maintain certifications in EMD and EFD with the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch, along with IFSTA and departmental training.
