
Saskatoon Fire & Protective Services now exclusively hires graduates of a recognized fire training school providing accredited courses (IFSAC).
Applicant Requirements:
- 18 years of age or older.
- Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Possession of certificate in Public Fire Protection from a school accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC).
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence or the equivalent from other provinces. In Saskatchewan, abstracts are available from Saskatchewan Government Insurance.
- Must meet the National Fire Protection Association Standard (NFPA) 1582 for vision at the time of application. Successful applicants will be required to supply an optometrist's report.
- No more than 30 decibel hearing loss in either ear - average at 500, 1000, and 2000 C.P.S
- Satisfactory criminal record check.
- A proven history of satisfactory job performance.
- Ensure ITLS and CPR is current within one year at the time of application.
- Successful completion of a Certified Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) current within one year prior to application.
- Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT - Level C).
Note: Applicants who do not meet the above requirements will not be considered for the position of Firefighter.
Public Fire Protection Course Requirements
- Firefighter level 1 and 2 (NFPA 1001, IFSAC accredited)
- Driver Apparatus Operator (NFPA 1002, IFSAC accredited)
- Technical Rescue Practices (meets NFPA 1006)
- Fire Inspection Level 1 (NFPA 1031, IFSAC accredited)
- Public Educator (NFPA 1035, IFSAC accredited), or Fire Service Instructor (NFPA 1041, IFSAC accredited)
- Hazardous Material Awareness and Operations (NFPA 472, IFSAC accredited)
- Primary Care Paramedic (Canadian Medical Association)
*Please note: As of April 1, 2010 any individual applying must, at the time of application, have completed the licensing exam requirements through the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics. For further details please refer to www.collegeofparamedics.sk.ca/
