The Office of the City Solicitor provides general and specialized legal services for City Council and the civic departments. It also renders legal services to other related but independent bodies and boards. Our major duties include providing legal advice to City Council and the civic administration, representing the City at all levels of Court and before various Administrative Tribunals, and carrying out a wide variety of legal work generated by the various responsibilities and activities of the civic corporation.
We are also responsible for the City’s risk management function, which involves ensuring the City is protected against losses, that losses are minimized, and resolving claims by and against the City.
Our Office consists of the City Solicitor, Theresa Dust, eight lawyers, a solicitor in charge of Risk Management, and support staff.
